Driving through Central Mongolia in winter was quite an experience. The landscape changes every few hours; from snowy mountains to desert plains to green fields. Outside the cities the people live a nomadic existence; moving their gers (tents) 3 times a year with the seasons and living off their livestock and the land. A new generation is keeping this tradition alive; choosing this hard but rewarding life over moving to the cities. Mobile phones, TVs and portable solar power cells live alongside the traditional lifestyle, providing a fascinating mix of modern utilitarian and nomadic traditions in the stunning Mongolian landscape.
