High above the city of Santa Marta, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, sits the town of Minca. Here we found some of the most beautiful and ecologically diverse landscapes we’ve ever seen. The forests are full of wildlife; parrots, toucans, hummingbirds and iguanas to name just a few and fresh mangoes, avocados and countless other fruits fall from trees onto the side of the road! This is also an area known for its coffee farms or “fincas”. Small farms producing organic coffee can be found on every road. Coffee season here runs from October – April so sadly we didn’t get to see the process in action but we were able to visit some of the farms and see how they operate, most still using century-old traditional techniques.
